So I was listening to this podcast about eating healthy. One of the hosts was explaining how he was always skinny and could not pick up weight.  Elly was in the room and she said: "I don't know why he would complain about that.  I like being skinny.  That's why I stretch everyday." Ahh if only streching were the solution to being skinny.  It is cute what a 7 year old thinks. Sent from my LG G3, an AT&T 4G LTE smartphone

Kids Speak the Truth

Elly: Mommy why do you watch movies with bad words? Me: I don't know. I watch movies with bad words?? Elly: Yes at Nonna and Pop pops. I had no idea what she was talking about. Until I thought about it more. We slept over Nonna and Pop Pops house. We were snowed in and ate pop corn and hot cocoa. When it was time for the kids bedtime, I tucked them in the spare room and left for the living room. My parents rented movies and the PG-13 movie "Total Recall" was playing (the new one). Lots of Action, Adventure, Intrigue and...cursing. Brinley was sound asleep, but Elly was not sleeping well. She sneaked her way into the living room more than once to complain she wasn't tired. Yes I had watched a foul mouthed movie, a many, but this time I was caught. Me: "I'm sorry Elly. I promise to watch better movies. Mommy will not watch movies with bad words.". Elly: "Heavenly Father does not like us to watch movies with bad words." Gu...

Elly: "Mommy I can't wait until I grow up because then I will know everything." Elly: She is running around the house, ignoring my demands to get dressed. She is in her birthday suit after her bath, clutching her chest. "Mommy, close the windows, I don't want anyone to see my boobies." Brinley: "I whan eye pa...peas!" Translation: I want ice pop..,please!" It is the cutest thing watching the two of them babble on reading their books as if they know the words in them.

I LOVE that Elly played by herself for over an hour in the playroom yesterday, as I straightened up the house.  She was singing, and giggling as she concocted tales of adventure and romance.  I love that her characters were not her ever popular Barbie dolls, but her lincoln log play set.  I walked in and witnessed a line of short and chunky logs standing next to one another in a perfect single file row. "Are you building something?"  I asked She shook her head "No Mommy, these are people." I nodded and smiled.  What a wonderful gift, Imagination.  I am glad she has the power to narrarate  her own made up stories.  I hope she never loses that.   "I'm a good waiter Mommy."  Elly was patiently sitting at the kitchen table as I wiped down the counters, then swept the kitchen floor.  I let her help wash the dishes, dry and wipe the counter tops and table, but only once a day-after a...

Quote 1 "This is not gonna be an option for me."  Elly told her friend Braden.  They were rummaging around in the kiddie play house in the backyard.  I'm not quite sure what the conversation was about....I suppose I should listen more intently next time. Quote 2 "Pretend were married Daddy.  We have to talk like were married okay Daddy?"  Danny just shrugged and smiled.  He was busy building the chicken coop minding his own, while Elly followed his every move.  She pranced around the yard as if she were busy doing important things and burst out with the words. "Oh Honey?  Honey, what are you doing here Honey?"     I don't recall using the word Honey that often with Danny....but then again I must be, otherwise why would she think wives call their husbands Honey?  Quote 3 "I love you Jesus.  I'm looking out the window, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!!"  This was a time that Elly was helpi...

We were watching an excerpt on the making of the Jim Henson film, "The Labyrnth".  Elly was snuggled up beside me, sipping on lemondae and munching popcorn.  One of the pupeteers, Luto-or Pluto (I'm still not sure) is a huge muppet of a puppet.  We watched a man stand inside of 'Luto"aka a huge, furry, stuffy puppet suit and act out his parts in the movie.   We witnessed the man climb out of the of the heat induced "Luto" contraption huffing and puffing.  He wiped off the beads of sweat and said "Piece of cake"  Afterwards he dramatically fell to the floor, pretending he had passed out.  Elly looked back at me, her brows quizzically furrowed. "Why does he want a piece of cake mom?" I laughed and she again looked at me with curiousity. "Why you laughing?"  Because it's cute when kids take everything literally, that's why.  Minutes later I heard her repeating the phrase....piece of ca...

Scene 1 "Mom, Epella is a bear" "Epella is the bear?"  I ask, pointing to the speckled pink and orange stuffed animal perching on one of the kiddie chair. "Uhuh, Epella, Fella." Scene 2 We read the story of Jonah that morning.  We talked about Jonah's fears and how wicked the people of Ninevah were. Elly listened intently as Jonah fled to the sea, in hopes of hiding from the Lord.  But none of us can hide from God-we may run, but we will do so in vain.  Later that day we were at the park.  The sun was shining, the birds were chirping.  And Elly said: "God love us" "Yes this is true and he loves you very much." She shook her head and continued "He misses us-cuz when I'm at grandma's house, him miss me." I then,  proceeded to remind her of the story of Jonah.

Funny Things Elly has said in the past week: Scene 1 "You have to Kiss me."  I heard Elly's demands coming from the play room.   My muscles tensed.  A little boy her age was over and they were make believing pretty well up till this.  Why does my four year old daughter want a kiss.  I couldn't make out his response to such a request.  Instead I heard Ellyanna pipe up. "No, I'm Princess Aurora, you have to kiss me so I can wake up."  I roll my eyes and stand.  I slowly make my way to the play room as images of a not too distant future pop into my head. After all if we are requesting kisses at the age of four what is to come when she turns sixteen?  I shook my head and quickened my pace, trying to block out images of rebellious boys draping their arms about my daughter and her leaning into thier embraces.   I walk into a scene of the two of them chatting.  Elly is wrappe...

Some cutesty lines for you today, brought to you by Ellyanna: Quote 1 “The boy got a gift.”   Ellyanna read out loud.   “Very good.”   I chimed, proud of my little girl who can read small sentences.   That is, the sentences and words we review every night after bath time.   She beamed with pride and then her little forehead proceeded to scrunch up as she pointed at the flash card.   “Why is there a polka dot there?”     Baffled I glimpsed at the card in my hand.   Polka dot?   What polka dot?   Oh…she meant the period. “Well that is called a period, and this goes at the end of every sentence.”   Her brows furrowed and she said. “But why is there a polka dot there?”   Maybe this explanation was a bit advanced for a four year old.   Any ideas on how to explain this?   Think it over and share with me.   Quote 2 “What you gonna do with all that junk? ...

Elly: "Mommy can I have a glass of water?" Me: "Sure honey check the fridge, I'm sure there's a water with your name on it!" Elly checks the fridge and finds an ice cold cup of water for her. "My name is on it?  Where?" She scans the cup for signs of letters.  Oh isn't it so cute when kiddies take everything you say quite literally.

I'm almost 70% positive that Brinley was chanting the word "happy" while dancing atop the kitchen table this evening. It was her ambitious journey to climb up the chair then on to the table to walk about and giggle her words of joy- wait no words of "happy". Ellyanna proceeded to follow. At first I began my ranting and raving for them to get down. Then Ellyanna cried and claimed I was mean and didn't love her-a daily almost minute by minute accusation these days. So I caved mostly because Brinley was still giggling and smiling back at me. And then I got to enjoy watching them dance about and sing. Ellyanna dances all cutesy and can see her reflection in the nearby window. It entertains us both, it's adorable.

Elly's Snowman

Image
Ellyanna: Mommy wanna see my snowman? Me: Oh wow sweetie it looks great! (looking at a pile of snow on the driveway I assumed was the snowman) Ellyanna: No that's not it Mommy. (runs towards the garage and points to the a snowball on the ground) This is it! It's a baby snowman! This picture is her trying to see with her hat and holding her snowman in her hand.
