Learning from someone who has been there before

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning;  and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels”  Proverbs 1:5

Tis the season for improvement!  And there is much to be improved upon.   But I can’t do it on my own, which is probably why I appreciate this verse of scripture.  Listening to wise counsels-people who have been there before me-is the intention.  With each goal I’ve made, I found a mentor to study.  Some of them I know, some of them I know of.  Either way, I’m hoping they’ll help me with the goals I’ve made and the things I’ve been pondering.  Need some examples?  Of course you do, considering you might want to do the same yourself.
Simplying the Stuff-
Mentors
My friend Ali, lots of minimalist blogs (lovingsimpleliving.com and missminimalist.com)
Homeschooling-  (Not totally committed to this yet but in love with the idea.)
Mentors
This amazing mom Sasha who homeschools her genius girls, blogs (also see lovingsimplelife.com)  And many of the moms I’m meeting at MOPS.
Marriage
Mentors
My neighbor Kathy and her husband, 53 years of marriage, my parents and in laws, Books, “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman, the Scriptures, blogs (Ablogaboutlove.com) and many many other books I will be reading this year I am sure.  Also there are great blogs for dating  (thedatingdivas.com)
Spiritually
Mentors
Thomas S. Monson, the Scriptures, and the friends I know that are always willing to drop everything to help a friend out in need.
Parenting
Mentors
I have some patient friends for parents, so I’ve decided I will be interviewing them and asking what some of things they do to avoid yelling/ having a near nervous breakdown/ etc.  Also, more books “Raising Unselfish Children in a Self-Absorbed World” by Jill Rigby-great book, reading it right now for second time.
 Writing
Mentors
Well first off starting a writing group with four friends, so way excited about that.  I’m positive I can learn oodles from them.  Also reading books from my genre, studying what I like about their writing techniques etc.  I’m thinking about committing to local writers guild that has actual published-making money from their books-authors.
Financial
Mentors
You gotta love Dave Ramsey.  I listen to his podcasts, read his books have his CD’s.  My grandparents, they were always frugal and now live a comfortable life.  Any other books concerning money.  Thinking about reading “The Automatic Millionaire”  It’s an easy read by David Bach and it makes sense.

There is lots to learn from those who have been there before.  I know I’ll find more books to read, people to interview and friends to follow as my journey to a new and improved me plods along.  I plan to learn from the seasoned veterans and apply it to my life, after all that’s what the wise and understanding people do right?

Oh thank you! Thank you Lori!! Glad someone is reading it. Sometimes I feel I'm just blogging into a big empty void and wonder why am I doing this? No one finds me that entertaining. Also also want your blog address!!
