Our School Year in Review

We have been busy around here, busy with learning and lots of fun! It was a successful school year, with lots of activities, field trips and read alouds. We are still continuing onward till June and then will phase into easier "summer school". But here are a few of the things we have accomplished thus far.

Activities For 205-2016 School
Year: Most of these activities are done with our friends whom also homeschool
1) Apple Sauce Making, with apple
craft, and diagramming parts of an apple, read a book about apples
2) Egyptian Day: decorating the
cake as the nile river with pyramids, made Egyptian jewelry, read Egyptian
story about Gods and acted out parts from story.
3) Columbus Day: Crafts making the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, Read about Christopher Columbus, Maps and Themed Cupcakes
4) Fall Poetry Party: Students
memorized fall poems, created props and hand motions and presented in a group
5) Halloween Party: games, food
and dress up
6) Thanksgiving party: crafts,
food, story about Thanksgiving
7) Christmas Party
8) Gingerbread house making
9) Caroling Party
10) Greek Day: Read a Greek Myth,
kids then put on a play acting it out, ate Greek food
11) Chinese New Year (books, crafts-lanterns, Chinese New year Meal, games)
12) Martin Luther King Day: Read 3
picture books about Martin Luther King, did a craft, ate snacks
13) Presidents Day Book Reports and
ate some of the Presidents favorite foods
14) Poetry Party: Memorized another
poem and acted it out, then wrote their own poems, snacks
15) Cupcake Wars: Kids made their
own cupcakes, decorated them and presented, yummy fun!
16) St. Patrick’s Day: read about
five books about Ireland and Saint Patrick, drew pictures, did copy work, made
an Irish meal and brought it to Nonna and Pop Pops where girls presented oral
reports, shared their art and writing and shared our meal. (potato soup,
rainbow salad, and rainbow cookies)
17) Fire Safety Day: Read a Book, Made an escape Route, tested the Escape route blind folded, snacks
18) Easter Egg Hunt and crafts
(hosted by our friends the Stokers)
19) Jerusalem dinner for Easter
read with scripture and picture books, and washing the girls feet
20) Reading Recital hosted by tutor
21) Shakespeare Birthday party:
Read The Tempest (kids version) they acted it out and dressed up, learned about
William and had a trivia game afterwards, wrote pictures and poems with quill
pens, sang “Happy Birthday” to Shakespeare and ate cake
22) Harry Potter Crafts, Discussion of Book, Themed Food, Game of Quidditch and then Movie
23) Gardening 101: Learning the Basics of Gardening by planting our own things with Dad

I definitely feel like I am in my groove as a homeschool Mom now. We are learning so much together!! I have seen the girls blossom this year.
